Numerical simulation of the behavior movement of floating structures

Wolfgang Schmidt, Peter Strangfeld, Eduard Völker and Yaraslau Sliavin

The sea levels are rising and floods all over the world threats the infrastructure. The settlement of water will be a solution during the near future. We should recognize the risks for building envelops and settlements by the new boundary conditions, for instance offered by the direct contact by the water and water moving. The moving building ground requires a manifold adaptation of the structure. In the paper are demonstrated the affects of water waves on floating houses installed on former open cast mines. The pictures of destroyed accesses to such subjects show the necessary of the investigations of affects of water waves to the floating houses. In order to reduce the experimental activities it should be done by means of the numerical simulation. It is carried out by means of an modern computing equipment and the software ANSYS FLUENT, ANSYS MECHANICAL FSI and ANSYS AQWA. For the validation are available a hydraulic test channel with a dimension of 15m x 5m, a floating platform near the harbour of Großräschen Sea and floating houses in the environment of the Lusatian Lakeland. In the results are shown the determination of wave-forces that act on the structure of pontoons, development of new connecting elements, adapted material and structure versions, damping of the water wave movement and use of wave energy.
